Perast is a small waterfront town situated at the foot of St. Elias hill in the historically strategic part of the Bay, overlooking the Verige strait. Perast is a proud witness of the glorious Venetian legacy that is elegantly manifested throughout the town. Beautiful stone palaces, courtyard squares, numerous churches, cafés and restaurants appear before one's eyes while strolling down the main road. There are two islets off the coast of Perast that add to the picturesqueness of the whole Perast experience. Less than half-an-hour-drive from Perast, at the very end of the Bay, there is Kotor, a town after which the whole Bay is named. The level of preservation, together with the historical and cultural value of the town, were rewarded by including Kotor on the UNESCO world heritage list in 1979.  Many significant buildings, from different periods of history, adorn Kotor, but it is the wall of Kotor that takes everybody's breath away.
